large and sad post{34}
things are decidedly bad around here, i’ve just witnessed video of unbelievable animal cruelty smashed at an old harmless and severely chained uk circus elephant, watched the news about a stabbing here on the gold coast, and endured some more of that rubbish coronation street and that’s all before 19.00 hours. it is becoming very hard for me to rejoice in the world of blogging, when all i find is misery and despair.

Obese man found fused to chair

An obese US man had to be cut from a chair he had been sitting in for two years after his body became fused to it, local media reported.
Police told WTRF news that the Ohio man’s skin had become fused to the seat of the chair, which was covered in urine, faeces and maggots.
The man’s girlfriend brought him food for two years as he sat in his own waste in the filthy apartment they shared with another man, police said.
The smell was unbearable and one officer told the station that he threw away his uniform after it was sullied while cutting the man out of the chair. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment.
“The living room where the man lived in his chair was very filthy, very deplorable. It’s unbelievable that somebody lives in conditions like that,” said Jim Chase, a city code enforcer in Bellaire, Ohio.
“I instructed the landlord this morning and the two people, tenants at the house, they had to get it cleaned, there’s no way they can live in something like that, and so they are working on it,” he told WTRF on Monday.
so while swimming in this pool of misery and despair, i’ll try a trick dive, pike, tuck, turn sort of thing and take advantage of the obscenity. here’s a trailer of another classic film that deserves humungous praise, it was the first film to really explore the blackest of black, with filters and composition .. se7en

Having worked many years as a nurse in mental health, I see enabling behaviors from family and friends of the mentally ill who think they are helping, when in fact they are just adding to the person’s illness. This post did not really shock me (I think I am unshockable now really) but I understand how it could have occurred, having seen similar situations…
Rather than let news like this and the other things you mention depress me, I try every day to improve the life of other people, in any way I can. If every person on the planet did this, what a different world we would see. Sad that so many people do the wrong thing, but I won’t ever give up or give in trying to do the right thing.
And Se7en was a very good movie…thanks for the post!

That is truly disturbing that people would enable someone to live in such conditions. Wow…I think all involved are suffering from some kind of mental illness, not just the guy that was fused to the chair.
By the way..regarding the beginning of your post..and the circus..I’ve been demonstrating against the cruelty in circuses for about 14 years now..it’s a sad reality that they impose upon sentient creatures and industry that thrives on the suffering of others. Thanks for mentioning that topic..poor elephant…it’s an important issue to remind others of, too easily forgotten and rationalized.

It made my physically ill to think of someone living in these conditions….it made me sicker to question how it got this bad….for people to enable was sad enough… but how did it get to this in the first place…..As always….xoxoxo

Something like this weighs heavy on my heart. It shouldn’t have even started and you wonder what kind of circumstance started this situation on a down-hill course. It also makes me wonder why neighbors didn’t call and report this if the odor was so strong. Surely, someone other than who was living in the house had noticed. Maybe not. Just sayin’
I haven’t seen Se7en yet, but am looking forward to it!

The question to ask yourself about all the cruelty and negative news is “What can you ….. alone …. do about it?” Not very much is the answer. This doesn’t mean you don’t care, but you can free yourself from it burdening you down to much. We all like to have a rant at times. That is good. It is also good and better to come out of that and return to the happier things in life. Take care friend.

I actually remember seeing an article a while back about a guy that laid in bed like that got huge and also fused to the bed.. The sad part was someone was actually living with him taking care of him … Pretty sad

Ugh. I totally agree. We need more happy news (which means we also need less sad/crazy/dumb people causing sad news). This is RIDICULOUSLY upsetting and quite gross. I don’t know how either roommate could allow him to be in that condition for so long.

I just cannot imagine that his girlfriend would actually leave him in that state for so long. I am also reminded of the film “Gilbert Grape.” Well, let’s hope that that man gets better.
