a solar system {17}

i have a confession to make to you dear reader, but you may have already realised the fact that i love documentaries .. any topic, but it has to take my fancy. the most recent one which will help illustrate this joy, was a documentary on sex robots !! there is sub culture waiting on their creation, while they wait well, you can guess what they’re doing ?

so down a completely different path we have my really, really favourite young documentary maker/host, the amazingly excited professor brian cox .. learn about physics, learn about our planet, it’s role in our solar system and soon it’s place in the universe.

there are some, like creationists, those who think that mankind has only been about for around 6,000 years, those that deny that the theory of evolution is the key to understanding how we and the rest of the planet’s occupants are the way we are today. it’s very sad, but these people won’t like this scientifically based, sensible, clever, real and passionate explantion of events.

it’s a theory which is continually being scientifically tested and even though “they’ll” never agree .. confirmed and expanded upon. here is a quote that prof cox used to open this wonderful series….

We live on a world of wonders. A place of astonishing beauty and complexity. We have vast oceans and incredible weather. Giant mountains and breathtaking landscapes. If you think that this is all there is, that our planet exists in magnificent isolation, then you’re wrong. As a physicist I am fascinated by how the laws of nature that shaped all this also shaped the worlds beyond our home planet. I think we are living through the greatest age of discovery our civilisation has known… ( Professor Brian Cox’s opening narration )

rantings of a bald man {23}

today’s guest post is from the bald man and he has a thing or two to say – tbaoo welcomes him with open arms and a blank cheque ( ? ) please fully appreciate his nonsense – here

Hello my fine friends and thank you for this splendid opportunity. This however is a sad sad time in the life of the bald one, I am giving you fair warning so be prepared I would not wish for any salt filled drops of sadness to roll down your cheeks and find their way between the cracks in the keys of your typing tool possibly leading to damage, the bald one is in enough distress as it is!

For I have recently realised I have fallen out of love with someone that has been a friend and a companion for as long as I can remember. But over the last few years we have so sadly just drifted apart, oh Television what has happened to us?

We began our love story all those years ago when I was trapped in the wilds of rural Norfolk England with just you and books to free me from the purgatory my young life was. And over the years our bond grew stronger, you filled my life with laughter and emotion, so many wonderful programmes that I would without fail flop in my festering pit to indulge in without fail. Looking back maybe the first tiny cracks appeared when I discovered girls, or to be more accurate they discovered me. But they came and went, ( note from tbaoo – getting a bit risque here ) but you I could always rely on. But now these days you just seem to offer me nothing, there I have said it finally, nothing!

Endless shows of such poor quality I don’t know how you can sleep at night, people ridiculed for their deluded beliefs in their talents, so called celebrity’s desperately clinging on to whatever fame they can and glimpses into others working lives no matter how mundane!  I don’t wish to see others having their soul slowly chipped away.

Oh I know you sometimes offer me a little nugget of joy but these just make me remember the good times and it hurts. And I use you, I do, I admit it don’t look at me like that, your main role in our relationship now is a conduit for the things that do offer me a glimpse of light and warmth, my games console and my many many DVD’s.

Maybe its my fault I suppose I must share some of the blame. I can choose what I watch more and when. Either via the web of wonder or a disc that’s versatile. No longer that anticipation before long awaited episodes of entertainment. But what do I mainly absorb through my glass covered retina’s?  Mainly the shows, the series, the joy you gave me when our love was strong and true.

No more now readers the bald one cannot contain his sobs of despair for but a moment longer.

you who doctor who {16}

okey – dokey, dear reader, you may suspect that i’m a bit weird, well maybe more a bit more than a bit. i grew up as a young boy, obviously ( well maybe not that obvious ), having the crap scared out of me, intentionally of course, by the mysteriously scary doctor who. i actually hid behind the lounge when the cybermen appeared for the first time. scary muckers.

if you have kids tell them and show them just how great doctor who is, was and how lucky they are that it returned. this relaunch attracts an even wider, slightly jaded audience that has been completely taken in by the gem of a script writing idea. say anything, do anything, have any actor, go anywhere, when anywhere and bingo, it’s the doctor. strange monsters, frightening story-lines with seemingly impossible escapes, but only after the cliff hanger and of course you’re hooked. i was and still am, i watch every bloody episode of the new generation, an in doctor joke there.

this is amazing !! – this threesome below, the three parts of the “very first episode”. it’s hard going because is so freak’n old, although you have to imagine that the effects and storylines were groundbreaking stuff and children of the time were transfixed, and scared shitless. later when a much younger tbaoo was born, he was as well .. enjoy.

A Doctor Who channel has been launched on YouTube by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the corporation.

The channel – Classic Doctor Who – will feature a mixture of clips from favourite episodes and exclusive previews from forthcoming DVD releases.

Jo Warren, head of UK and Ireland sales said it would be a “great space for fans to discuss Classic Who”.

The channel, which launched on Tuesday, features clips dating back from the very first episode.

Since Doctor Who returned to the BBC in 2005 it has become extremely popular with viewers.

The Christmas Day special, which featured Welsh singing star Katherine Jenkins, attracted an average audience of 10.3 million viewers.
