it’s not the end it’s the beginning {5}

tbaoo can’t possibly be the source of objective news reporting, so i have to rely upon others – hopefully objective. the abc, australia’s national broadcaster is the place to start. i’ve searched my warped brain to pontificate about the delayed result, the players and now the result, i can’t, except to say i’m happy with it and look forward to the groundbreaking changes to the way the parliament will work and the application of the hard lessons learnt by the labor government.

kevin 07 tried too much, too soon and broke the cart in a major way, forget about the horse, the cart itself was broken beyond repair and that’s why he was dumped upon. he had tremendous ideas, worked everybody to near death and blustered his way around with “in hindsight” disastrous results.

Labor clings to power

By online political correspondent Emma Rodgers - Updated 2 hours 21 minutes ago … at abc 24

Independents Tony Windsor and Rob Oakeshott have broken Australia’s political deadlock by agreeing to back Julia Gillard in a Labor minority government.

After more than a fortnight of suspense, Mr Oakeshott and Mr Windsor today revealed their intention to give Labor their crucial votes, meaning it has secured the 76 seats needed to rule.

Their decision came hot on the heels of Bob Katter, who earlier confirmed he would back the Coalition, putting it on 74 seats.

Ms Gillard is due to speak at 4:15pm (AEST) about the deal she clinched with Mr Windsor and Mr Oakeshott which will see her continue on as prime minister.

Fronting the media this afternoon both men explained their reasoning for backing Labor.

Mr Windsor said Labor’s National Broadband Network and position on climate change were major factors in his decision, as well as a feeling that if he supported the Coalition it would rush to the polls.

He also made a plea to his conservative constituents not to turn away from a Labor government.

“This is about using the political system to advantage the people we represent,” he said.

Mr Oakeshott said he considered who could form a more stable government, who had a better deal for the bush and who could work best with a Greens-dominated Senate when coming to his final position.

And he revealed that an offer of a ministry position had been made, but he would not confirm by which side and whether he would take up any offer.

Labor has promised a regional package as part of the deal, but the two men did not outline specific details, instead leaving that to Ms Gillard.

“I’m confirming for the Governor-General of Australia that today I will do what I’ve always done, ironically, and give confidence and supply to government and in effect that means confidence and supply in Julia Gillard,” he said.

“This is going to be a cracking Parliament. It’s going to be beautiful in its ugliness.”

Mr Oakeshott’s and Mr Windsor’s decision to swing behind Labor is a bitter blow for Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, who came closer than anyone expected to winning the election. In recent days he pleaded with the country trio not to forget their conservative roots.

Having spent just three weeks in the job before she called the election, Ms Gillard has narrowly avoided becoming one of the shortest-serving prime ministers in Australian history and instead will lead Labor to govern in the country’s 43rd Parliament.

When it sits, the new Parliament will be subjected a major overhaul, as brokered by the independents.

Question Time will be revamped, an independent speaker will be installed and there will be new powers for committees.

Today’s decision comes 17 days after the federal election resulted in the loss of a swag of Labor seats in Queensland and New South Wales and left both major parties short of a majority for the first time since World War II.

Mr Oakeshott and Mr Windsor join newly elected independent MP Andrew Wilkie and Greens MP Adam Bandt in pledging their support for a Labor minority government.

Parliament is unlikely to sit for several weeks until the results from the election are finalised by the Australian Electoral Commission and the writs are returned.

..

the prime minister is dead – long live the prime minister

by way of light relief, here’s the election campaign ad for bob katter, the only one of the 3 twinklers that decided to provide his support to the conservative coalition. things will really be exciting over the next three years of the new labor government.

tbaoo goes cute {0}

ok, there’s one thing i’ve noticed lately, it seems to be that i start many of the taboo posts with the word “well”. it doesn’t mean anything really, it might just be a conversational nuance that i picked up in my travels abroad.

today’s been bucketing down around here, chucking it down, pissing down, all that means, is that is has been raining heaps, so my mind has been trapped here in my luxurious home. i spotted an ad on the tv just now and it has prompted me to dart into another area of my home, the luxurious computer room, to access my still new imac and present the first episode of cute. i was told many years ago, that cute means ugly but interesting but i’m not sure about that.

this video has no real immediate relevance, other than i like the muppets and think all politicians should be knocked down a peg or two, the real reason is the commercial i saw on the abc news featuring mr angry ant abbot in the “let’s do the time warp again” animated commercial. as soon as i can get it, i’ll post it, can’t find it yet though. maybe it’s like the adams family piece, which disappeared quicker than a group of hungry hookers outside a big wealthy men called john convention.

this second item is cuter than something that’s cuter !!

Pygmy hippo baby makes public debut

August 5, 2010 - brisbane times – aap

Taronga Zoo’s youngest pygmy hippo calf has made her public debut a month after her birth.

Kambiri, a Nigerian name meaning “allow me to join this family”, was born on June 26 at 2.30am and weighed in at 5.3 kilograms. She has been growing fast, 300 grams per day, and weighed 16 kilograms as she walked around her enclosure today.

“She is quite cheeky … she is also very shy as well, so visitors will have to be patient when they see her in the next couple of weeks,” zoo spokeswoman Danielle McGill said.

Kambiri’s first public appearance took its toll on her. ”She was out for about an hour and now she’s completely exhausted,” Ms McGill said.

Kambiri is the second calf to be born to mother Petre and father Timmy.

Zookeepers are happy with the treatment she’s receiving from her mum.

“Her mother is being an absolute wonderful mother. She’s very content [and] guiding the calf around,” Ms McGill said. When Kambiri is older she will join the Australasian Breeding Program, which helps provide a safety net against extinction for pygmy hippos.

But for now Ms McGill says the zoo and its visitors will enjoy watching their youngest hippo grow.

“We’ll just be watching her confidence grow each day,” she said. Pygmy hippos are a solitary forest-dwelling creature native to west Africa and little is known about them in the wild with the majority of research recorded about the species learnt from those cared for in zoos.

The World Conservation Union estimates that there are fewer than 3000 pygmy hippos remaining in the wild.

i’ll keep you posted on the elusive election advertising campaign material.

it’s election season {1}

i have been sitting here, regular reader will realise i do a lot of this, but today i actually did the back grass. it can’t be called lawns, it’s crap. any-who, i come inside needing a strong sit down and what do i see, the media salivating over the journey taken from julia g’s house , remember the 17 year old, i couldn’t see or hear her there today, but she must have been there. the enormously secure, well paid and media savvy cavalcade left the melbourne home of our pm and followed her to the airport, then grabbed her again ( different people i suspect ) as the plane landed, i didn’t see what they showed whilst the plane was flying ?? well the car sped, ha !! to the governor general‘s house, quaint remains as quaint does, then while i was making myself look, smell and appear better looking, bingo a press conference had been arranged, conducted and was being dissected. this information overload was equalised by the fighting big eared ant, mr abbott.

shit it’s exciting – the sky news network – while shoring up loyal followers prior the national broadcaster coming on-stream with it’s 24 hour news channel, is franticly broadcasting riveting – bland retrospective bile, on at least 4 channels through this tightly fought, too early too call, unable to speculate at this time, freak’n election. poor old mr sheen, very accurate but cruel, accuracy is always cruel, try looking in the mirror !! our very short lived pm must be wetting his breakfast jim jams ( pyjamas ) at the very thought of this campaign.

well in preparation for the onslaught that is an australian federal election, i have looked to stephen hawking, as homer simpson ( a hero of mine ) says that wheel chair guy, and in doing so i have just about mastered the following mind numbingly hugest thing !! the universe is really big, that’s a line from the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, i will devote a lot more major space ( joke get it ) to this body of work again. well here goes….

if i’m heading to earth from a really long way away and i mean the furtherest away, i would travel through, from my universe home, through a bunch of galaxies and then into our solar system,. i won’t be able to list the number of galaxies, black holes, dark matter type stuff ( i threw that in because i’m getting cocky ) and then how many stars in the solar systems or how many of those there are, until i arrive in need of a sit down and a wee. it’s after this strenuous activity that i’ll be wanting to anally probe some hillbilly called billy bob in a field in louisiana and then return back to my home, with all the vital information required from earth, that this probe will provide me. shit – what a load of crap !!

while i’m waiting to secure the affiliate program with apple here in australia – yes i have asked, i’m going to publicise – shout, boast and dare to inform you the reader, as to what i’m listening to on my itunes while writing these literary masterpieces, the film insults wasn’t so literary i grant you, see previous post, or actually the guinness book of records bikini competition wasn’t either .. well today’s 2 songs are:

and the winner is {1}

happy 4th July to those celebrating such a holiday, here in australia it is a lazy ( and bloody freezing ) sunday. this morning’s abc television offering is the insiders program, it showed just how quaint and unpretentious our nation is. the new pm julia “g”, was arriving home with her boyfriend,  to be confronted by the media ( sounded like a 17 year old ) who was given the vital job of camping outside the julia “g” home .. her big chance to impress her puffed out, red faced, gout laden news editor boss,  with lights and inane questions asking what the pm will be doing? watching the bill? or the football, they mean australian rules down there.

the other fascinating thing about all of this, is the fast track efforts to appease the masses, the great unwashed we in tv land used to call them, and prepare everybody in the land for a federal election. vote one for julia “g” or for hairy big ears abbott. the angry small minded right wing conservatives, who force down our throats their stupefyingly stupid alternatives to modern life, they strive to restrict, modify or interfere with our lifestyle, behaviour and our bodies, will have a field day about julia”g” being a non believer and living in sin. her statement to hairy abbott “game on tony” when they shook hands in her first parliamentary session really seemd to shock the angry little antman to the core. she is not playing the i’m a girl card, but the  opposition is frightened of doing so of course, antman tony even stated on radio that he was a woman and was now allowed to get any job he ( ? ) desired, except full foward ( see australia rules ) or a catholic priest – hey tony !!!! no he didn’t mention the catholic priest’s men only club.

…. interesting times ahead indeed !! the main man from the bush barnaby will have to hold his tongue. oh and by the way – andrew bolt is a wanker, merchant banker and hamshanker – high brow political debate this ain’t, but hey – this is not the parliament’s hansard
