movember

mr hairy lip is after you again {14}

well dear reader, i’m a couple of days late, but have you guessed, well i hope you did from the photo, it’s movember again. i have the unnerving pleasure and sheer joy to announce that i am growing a moustache and desperately seeking kind hearted souls to help me raise heaps of cash.

this  detail below is taken directly from the movember site and will hopefully explain why i am growing a hairy lip and why it’s so important to raise some cash .. every cause is valid and vital, this one is close to my bum, yes it’s very close to my bum.

this photograph was of last year’s effort, this time it will be a normal mo, a classic chin tickler with some, “no make that loads of grey hair” and enough scratching power to end a relationship. i have heard there are some women who like such a thing, but i don’t think my bride will won’t me to go and find them. in fact i know it and it’s just as well because i don’t have the energy to scratch them when i catch them, but if they stood still it might be another story.

you’ll see at http://au.movember.com/mospace/361010/ there are a number of ways to donate to the cause, please choose one and make the man in your life a healthier, happier and better man.

as copied from the movember site …

On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face and then for the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

At the end of the month, Mo Bros and their female supporters (known as Mo Sistas) celebrate their gallantry and valor by either throwing their own Movember party or attending one of the infamous Gala Partés held around the world by Movember, for Movember.

The Movember Effect: Awareness & Education, Survivorship, Research

The funds raised in Australia support equally the two biggest health issues men face – prostate cancer and depression. The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by Movember and our men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue: the national depression initiative. Together, the three channels work together to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in line with our strategic goals, in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.

Global Action Plan

Movember – a global movement

Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne Australia, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.1 Million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate, with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland. In addition, Movember is aware of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas supporting the campaign and men’s health cause right across the globe, from Russia to Dubai, Hong Kong to Antarctica, Rio de Janeiro to Mumbai, and everywhere in between.

No matter the country or city, Movember will continue to work to change established habits and attitudes men have about their health, to educate men about the health risks they face, getting them to act on that knowledge, thereby increasing the chances of early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment.

In 2010, over 130,000 Australian Mo Bros and Sistas got on board, raising $25 Million AUD.

a question of my prostate {0}

well dear reader, i’ve just shaved off my luxurious double sided moustache, maybe better described as a real one with another silly fake one below. here’s a photo .. sorry it’s a bit close. wow, the softening edge take years of my ravaged face. the tremendous and refeshingly keen response to the fund raising that is movember has been great .. this outlandish piece of facial hardware, temporary as it was, has managed to raise $545.00 australian dollars. for more mo info, please check out .. The Movember Foundation Site.

i was asked today just what does a prostate actually do ? well google will have a hernia ( that’s another story ) if i copy and paste a detailed explanation, suffice to say the internet is full of educational material and as much as i’m loathed to promote self diagnosis via google, that’s dangerous shit .. here’s an aparently factual site. find out as much as you can, but most importantly go and see a doctor.

the fact that tbaoo is a silly place and that i have to remain in character, i’ve posted below “peter at the doctor”, two glaringly wrong messages are contained within. both serious subjects which are dealt with in true family guy style. all australians know full well the dangers of a tan, more on that at a later time as i do need to get bare, show my bumps and funny blobby black, brown specks to a specialist and have them assessed as to their status .. i.e melanoma or not. wow, it’s men’s health time at tbaoo.
..

stay young, feel young, think young, find a great partner, go to the doctor and remain positive. simple, homespun and true .. go on, off you go.

movember time {1}

it’s time to reveal my name .. not the first one but the surname as well, this reveal will only be to those who are able to donate money to a duo of worthy men’s health causes. no i don’t mean my mercedes, but as you’ll see it’s a range of incredibly clear health issues that well and truly deserve some hard earned fund-raising. the trick with this program is that i need to grow a moustache, in fact it’s on its way ( looking desperate now, soon to be fabulous ) and when completed at the end of the month i’ll display my rather hirsute upper lip.

some details as right clicked from the source – november the month of movember

Each year Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in Australia and around the world, with the sole aim of raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

Men sporting Movember moustaches, known as Mo Bros, become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo growing efforts. The rules are simple; register online at Movember.com and start the month of Movember clean shaven, before growing a Mo.

Money raised in Australia is shared equally between programs targeting prostate cancer and male depression. Funds are committed to our men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative and the Movember Foundation. Together, the three channels work to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world class programs in the fields of research, education, support, and awareness.

For further details on how Movember funds are being spent, please visit the Outcomes section of the Movember Foundation website.

Since inception, Movember has continued to grow each year, both in terms of participation numbers and funds raised. In its first year, 30 Mo Bros took part and last year, in Australia alone, over 128, 000 Mo Bro & Sistas got on board, raising more than $21 million.

Having been started by mates in Australia, Movember now takes place around the world. Motivated and inspired by what was happening in Australia, a further nine countries- New Zealand, USA, Canada, UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland – now embrace the Mo in an official capacity each November. In addition, Movember is aware of Mo Bros & Sistas supporting the cause right across the globe, from Russia to Dubai, Hong Kong to Denmark and everywhere in between.

At the end of Movember, a series of Gala Partés are held across Australia (and the world) to thank Mo Bros and Sistas for their remarkable fundraising efforts. Mo Bros (dressed to suit their Mo) and Mo Sistas (dressed to suit their Mo Bro) come together to celebrate the Mo and compete for a number of category titles in the perfect opportunity to see what Movember is really about; great mates, health, and fun. And of course, the Mo.

Big steps have been taken towards changing attitudes and habits relating to men’s health around the world but there is still much to be done to catch up with the women’s health movement. Via the moustache, Movember aims to continue to provoke conversation each year, with a view to breaking down long standing and traditional taboos and habits.

so dear reader, the principle is clear, i grow a moustache and try to raise some money to support the issues of depression in men and prostate cancer. i have the mo underway and if you would like to help … i, the healthy and the unhealthy men of australia will very much appreciate it. the donation is tax deductible in australia, and you donate via the secure movember website. you’ll see my surname there, hopefully it won’t get you far, but if you’d like to buy my cl 600 mercedes for me, then leave your details in the comment section.

please consider donating to this ticklish cause. to do so, go to the site and follow the prompts, as i mentioned if you’re in australia you get a tax break, if you’re not, you get a warm feeling. i sometimes get a warm feeling, but i think that’s the first signs of prostate trouble. quick end to the post as i need to run for a pee. this is the pre-written email we the hairy participants are given to promote our itchiness.

Hi ( you )

This Movember I’ve decided to donate my face to raising awareness about men’s health. My commitment is the growth of a moustache for the entire month of Movember, which I know will generate conversation, controversy and laughter.

I am doing this because close to 3,300 men die of prostate cancer in Australia each year and one in eight men will experience depression in their lifetime.

This is a cause I feel strongly about and I’m asking you to support my efforts by making a donation to me. To help, you can either:
This is the link to donate money via tbaoo … http://au.movember.com/mospace/361010/ and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account. Write a cheque payable to Movember Foundation, referencing my registration number 361010 and mailing it to: Movember Foundation, PO Box 292, Prahran, VIC, 3181

Through the Movember Foundation and its men’s health partners, PCFA and beyondblue: the national depression initiative, Movember is funding world class research, educational and support programs which would otherwise not be possible.

For more details on the impact Movember is having please visit: http://au.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

Thank you in advance for helping me to support men’s health.
