political buffoonery {6}
ok dear reader, a turning point may be on the cards. i have in the past i admit, engaged loudly, ranted, sprouted, pontificated, blustered and screamed my rage, amazement, annoyance and incredulity at politics and those buffoons who participate in such tomfoolery. i have found some pieces, stuff that had come my way and just thought i’d post them before i can’t.
this article may reign in my enthusiastic outpourings …
Media super regulator tipped
BY: SALLY JACKSON From: The Australian March 02, 2012 4:59Pm
THE print media inquiry report has recommended a News Media Council be formed to set journalistic standards and handle complaints for all news and current affairs coverage in print, online, on radio and on television.
The new super regulator would be government funded and would explicitly cover online news for the first time, covering any news website receiving 15,000 hits a year a more.
“In an era of media convergence, the mandate of regulatory agencies should be defined by function rather than by medium,” the report said. ”Where many publishers transmit the same story on different platforms it is logical that there be one regulatory regime covering them all.”
the cheeky part is the more than 15.000 hits a year bit, i might fit into that category. so what will i do while waiting to see if i’m captured, well here goes.
this silliness is so silly it’s frightening – sarah palin, campbell newman ( candidate for state premier – if he can win a seat ), a gold coast city councillor candidate ( running against an incumbent ) and the rather odd bob katter all feature today.
silly business one:
Dear SarahPAC Supporter,
Liberals have proven once again that they do not value truth. The liberal left distorts facts to fabricate its own version of history.
Their latest effort in storytelling is HBO’s movie, Game Change.
The screen writer of Game Change, Danny Strong, lapsed into a tired routine of manipulating facts and omitting key parts of Governor Palin’s story in order to push a biased agenda and drive ratings.
We have warned viewers of Game Change’s distortions–based upon the description and reports from people who have viewed the film, HBO must add a disclaimer that this movie is fiction.
Game Change is just the most recent example in a long history of facts being distorted for profit. Frank Bailey, a former aide to Governor Palin, was recently fined nearly $12,000 by the Alaska Attorney General’s Office for stealing the Governor’s internal emails. Bailey then turned the emails over to a blogger from the radical left who twisted the text into her own narrative for profit, proving again that Governor Palin’s opponents will stop at nothing to destroy her record of service.
silly business two:
Land deal details stump Newman
Rory Callinan
March 2, 2012
THE undertakers, the in-laws, the tunnel and the million-dollar council resumption – it’s the web of deals the Queensland opposition leader seems to be having trouble explaining even though he was the mayor at the time.
Since launching his campaign for the state’s top job, the LNP leader, Campbell Newman, has denied any conflicts of interest in relation to businesses run by his wife Lisa’s family, the Monsours.
The denials have come thick and fast as the Monsours have a number of ventures ranging from a disaster management company to various property developments around Brisbane.
silly business three: (spelling and wording as copied from here )
I think it fair to say that If people want to define me by the “Power” issue then they are trivializing the real problems we are facing on the Gold Coast. It is time to forward. I am more than happy to work with any councillor current or future to do what i can to ease the burden on the ratepayer, prepare for the common wealth games, and put Burleigh on the map. However, this is a team effort and by team, I don’t just mean the councillors. Everyone must play a part and take responsibility for their own futures. I will be calling on the community as a whole to participate in this. If people really beleive that living I can only deliver a better Burleigh by living Burleigh, i will move to Burleigh……when house prices go back up and water prices come down….
and four the final silly business:
SELF-professed ‘rough-nut bushman’ Bob Katter has been exposed as a closet culture vulture. courier mail
Mr Katter visited the classy confines of Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast on Friday to announce $15 million worth of cultural projects for the Glitter Strip if his Australian Party wins the State election.
About $10 million would be set aside for a sophisticated art gallery at Main Beach with a further $5 million to be spent to lure a retail outlet from the New York Museum of Art.
Antique jewellers and fashion parades would also be part of the new cultural precinct.
“We want this to become the premier art gallery in this country,” he said.
“This area will be established as the art, fashion and glamour centre of Australia.”
He also revealed he was an art lover who was once busted by security guards trying to sneak in to an art gallery warehouse in Sydney.
“Just because we’re rough-nut bush people – and I make no secret of the fact that I am, doesn’t mean we don’t have a great affection for the beautiful things in life,” he said.
“Some of our greatest artists are from the bush themselves.”
He admitted the cultural funding program was a new look for his party – which also endorses the killing of flying foxes in suburban backyards, but said it was not about trying to change people’s perceptions about Katter’s Australian Party.
“I’m not trying to change any perception of anything,” he said.
“For a bloke to have been escorted by security guards trying to get in to an art gallery warehouse I must have a great affection for art.”
one – another lame attempt by crazed conservatives who blame the exposure of facts about them, on the so called partisan media who do the exposing. a silly woman and a silly response.
two – qld had joh bjelke peterson who used to famously say “don’t you worry about that” when asked about any whiff of impropriety. campbell has insulted the oh so great and arguably corrupt premier, while taking on joh’s refusal to answer any questions about his and his families business dealings.
three – the gold coast city council elections are hotly contested and the candidate highlighted has been involved in some pretty grubby media recently and shot herself to the public’s attention during a debate of the state taking control of our water supply. complete misunderstanding of the details and a beat up by the local paper forced the majority of council to “take the water back”. some 100 million dollars to do so and it was totally unnecessary.
four – 15 million dollars would not even buy a house on a famous beachside street, let alone a major arts centre. hasn’t the hat wearing country bumpkin even heard of mona. this man is a very annoying and angry buffoon, who is so past relevance it’s frightening ( my opinion of course ) it’s frightening because his party of 50s thinking “major party rejected candidates” will probably get some seats, either way he’ll get enough to cause a confused state government.
so i’m ready to be arrested, constrained, censored, amused and even sued.
when ever it comes i’ll be ready.
